Dragon Age: The Veilguard – Regrets of the Dread Wolf Side Quest Walkthrough

The Regrets of the Dread Wolf side quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard becomes available after finishing the main quest Into the Crossroads. This is a very important side quest that can completely change the end of the game, so it’s worth doing. During this quest, you must explore the Crossroads and find wolf statuettes, which will reveal Solas’s past. After obtaining them, they can be placed in the Lighthouse, offering more insight into the Dread Wolf’s regrets. In this guide, we’re walking you through how to get each statue and how it affects the game’s finale.

Explore the Crossroads

In order to obtain the Regrets of the Dread Wolf side quest, you must explore the Crossroads after the Into the Crossroads main quest. You will come across a portal that takes you into Solas’s past. After that, you will acquire the quest. Since it takes a while to unlock most areas of the Crossroads, this quest expands across most of the game. Just make sure to do it before the main quest When Plans Align, the point of no return. The statuettes can be collected in any order.

First Wolf Statuette – The Labs Below

The Labs Below is a memory that you can view by exploring the Crossroads. It is one of three memories and you’ll get the wolf statuette afterwards. This is one of the first memories that you’ll come across, usually after the Into the Crossroads main quest. It is located in the Converging Eluvians, where the mirrors that lead to Treviso and Dock Town are located.
To get to it, go past the Gate of Deep Sorrows and head downhill until you cross through the portal.

Second Wolf Statuette – The Wolf’s Call

The second Wolf Statuette is located in the Elvhenan’s Haven area, where the mirrors to the Rivian Coast, Hall of Valor, and Arlathan Forest are located. You can explore this area pretty early on in the game. From the steps in the Elvhenan’s Haven area, turn around and follow the path. You’ll see an archway made of vines and plants. Cross into it and this will take you through the memory.

Third Wolf Statuette – Disrupt and Conquer

You can find the third wolf statuette after completing the main quest A Warden’s Best Friend. This is the third and final memory. It is located in the Height of Athim area of the Crossroads, near the Hossberg Wetlands Eluvian.
From the fast travel point in Height of Athim, turn around and follow the path. Right after you pass through the second doorway, turn left and climb the rocks. The portal to the memory is at the top.

Fourth Wolf Statuette – Gate of Lost Ages

You can find the next two statuettes by unlocking two of the gates within the Crossroads. These gates require that you defeat a champion and obtain their essence. The Gate of Lost Ages is located in the Converged City and you have to defeat the Champion Quyn the Sparkwielder. It’s best to defeat this champion if you are between Level 15-20. It is located in the northern part of Dock Town.
Once you’ve defeated the champion, return to the gate and use its essence to unlock it. Explore the area on the other side to find the next statuette.

Fifth Wolf Statuette – Gate of Faded Glories

For the fifth statuette, you need to defeat the champion Entarus the Rekindled, a Level 25 boss. He can be found in the northern part of Arlathan Forest. This gate is located near the Eluvian to Arlathan Forest. The area is accessible after completing How to Train a Griffon side quest.
Just like before, once you have the champion’s essence, use it to unlock the gate and explore the other side, where you’ll find the statuette.

Sixth Wolf Statuette – The Inquisitor’s Statue

This final statue can be acquired by doing the Shades of the Blight main quest in Act 1. In this quest, you meet the Inquisitor in Dock Town and they’ll give you their statue. This is the easiest statue to acquire since all you have to do for this quest is meet with Morrigan and the Inquisitor.

Use the Wolf Statuettes

As you collect the statuettes, you’ll be able to place them in various locations around the Lighthouse’s main area. There are six pedestals along the walls where you can place them. As you place them, artwork appears on the wall and you learn about one of Solas’s regrets. This can be done as you collect the wolf statuettes or all at once.

Obtain Mythal’s Essence

After you’ve collected all the statuettes and viewed all of Solas’s regrets, Morrigan will contact you. Meet her in the Crossroads and she’ll reveal that she carries part of Mythal’s essence, passed down to her after her mother, Flemeth, died. There is another half of Mythal’s essence located in the Crossroads and Morrigan believes it can aid you in your battle against the gods.
A new area of the Crossroads unlocks here and, if you follow it, you’ll come face to face with Mythal’s essence. You can convince her to give you the essence or fight her.
To convince her, select the following dialogue options:
“We must stop the gods.”
“We must stop the Blight.”
“We are worthy.”
“Solas is helping me.”
If you fail to convince Mythal, you will have to fight her. She takes the form of a dragon.

How to Use Mythal’s Essence

Mythal’s essence can be used at the very end of the game when making your final decision. You can use it to convince Solas to tie himself to the Veil rather than forcing him to do it by tricking or fighting him. If your Inquisitor romanced Solas in Dragon Age: Inquisition, then this is also the best path to the happiest ending. Morrigan will combine her half of Mythal’s essence with the one you retrieved, summoning Mythal. She speaks to Solas, convincing him to tie himself to the Veil and the Inquisitor joins him.
